The Compensation and Classification program's primary purpose is to determine the appropriate classification and associated pay for staff and management positions in alignment with the California State University (CSU) guidelines. The HSU Department of Human Resources & Academic Personnel Services coordinates with the administrative units and colleges to provide equitable and consistent compensation and classification practices campus wide.

Responsibilities of the Compensation and Classification area include conducting equity analysis for determining salary upon appointment to the University; approving position descriptions for staff job postings; providing assistance with developing effective position descriptions for existing positions; consulting with departments regarding reorganizations, compensation programs, equity analysis, in-range progression reviews and classification reviews.
